Reading is an important part of the creative process, through the written words the author takes you on a journey completely manifested in your own imagination. With our busy lives demanding attention, this wonderful opportunity to connect with our inner creative soul is lost. “The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake” by Aimee Bender has been selected as our first book.


“Eating the cake her mother has prepared for her ninth birthday, Rose Edelstein discovers she has a gift: she can taste her mother’s emotions in the food she prepares. Soon, every bite Rose takes is filled with feelings—not just her mother’s but those of other people as well—and what might have been a gift becomes a burden and then, perhaps, a curse. Because this is a novel rooted in family, Rose will learn that she is not the only Edelstein with a peculiar gift or burden. How she and others learn to cope—or not, as the case may be—is the small, sad story Rose shares. Bender’s earlier work has often been described as surrealistic; however, this novel seems more informed by a kind of magical realism that struggles with transformation and sometimes—fleetingly—succeeds, as in the case of the novel’s vividly realized Los Angeles setting. July Workshops - Learn something NEW!

July 9th - Copic 101 Club 6:30 - 7:30 pm

Come and learn about these wonderful alcohol ink markers. You will learn several techniques and get to color several images as time allows. These images can be used for cards or on layouts. You will receive 2 Copic markers at this class. Come to this club once a month and grow your marker collection and learn techniques and ideas for a Certified Copic Designer. Instructor-Bronwyn V. July 10th - ATC Make N Swap 5:00 - 7:00 pm Theme: America the Beautiful!
ATC’s are miniature works of art about the same size as baseball cards (2 ½ x 3 ½ inches). The cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc.), wet media) watercolor, acrylic paints, etc.), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc.) The cards are usually traded or exchanged rather than sold. Our focus is on a friendly ATC art trading in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is welcome here. All mediums are welcome too-stamping, painting, drawing, collage, mixed media, fabric, clay-you name it, we do it! And we are not just trading ATCs; we will be making them too. We hope that you will join our family of art lovers and join us in creating a set of your own artist trading cards to share. Cost: $7

Class Registration Policy
We want you to have the BEST possible classroom experience. Pre-registration & pre-payment is required for all classes/crops so that our instructors can prepare properly. Some classes may have a minimum number of students required or class will be cancelled. A kit will be prepared for the project or a store credit will be issued if you cannot make a class you have paid for.
